MPPM received at the Portuguese Parliament

A representation of MPPM was received yesterday in the Assembly of the Republic [Parliament] by its vice president, MP Fernando Negrão, on behalf of the president.

MPPM had sent requests for an audience to the Prime Minister and the President of the Assembly of the Republic to present the Appeal addressed to the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union to recognize the State of Palestine and to take an action with the other Member States to act in this same direction.

The delegation was composed by Carlos Almeida, vice president of MPPM, and Deolinda Machado, trade union and LOC (Catholic Workers League) leader, a subscriber to the Appeal.

They explained to MP Fernando Negrão the reasons that led MPPM to take this initiative, the foundations and justness of its position and the opportunity for Portugal, as it holds the rotating presidency of the EU Council, to articulate with the others Member States a policy that enshrines the rights of the Palestinian people.

They stressed the fact that the Appeal had the initial subscription of more than sixty personalities active in all sectors of Portuguese life.

MP Fernando Negrão took note of the reasons presented and informed that he would transmit them to the President of the Parliament.
